One Person. Three Practices.
Dr. Suddhasatwya trained as a physician and has spent years in clinical practice, learning the patience and precision the work demands. That same practice — sitting quietly with a person, listening for what they will not or cannot say — is the practice he carried into filmmaking.
As a director, his films lean into restraint: small gestures held a beat longer than is comfortable, frames composed for the silence within them. His work lives across three independent YouTube channels, each one carved out for a different register of story.
As an actor, he treats every role like a case history — researched, listened to, and finally inhabited. The result is a body of work that refuses to separate the clinician from the artist, because in him they have never been two separate people.
01 — The Physician
A Doctor First
Dr. Suddhasatwya Chatterjee is a Senior Consultant Physician at Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, specialising in rheumatology and diabetology, with a particular interest in geriatric care — fields that demand patience as much as precision, since they deal with conditions people live with for years, not just illnesses to be cured. He also serves as a DNB Examiner & Inspector, evaluating postgraduate medical training across the country, and holds leadership roles including Vice President of Protect The Warriors and membership of the Geriatric Society of India. Beyond the clinic, he has built a long-standing presence in public health awareness, carrying medical knowledge to a wider audience through print, television and social media, and has authored medical books of his own. His contributions to the field have been recognised with several awards over the years.
02 — The Film Director
Behind the Camera
As a film director, Dr. Chatterjee brings the same instincts that shape his medical practice — close observation of people, and an attentiveness to the small, human details of how they live — directly into his work behind the camera. Many of his films draw on the very stories he encounters as a physician, lending his direction a grounded, lived-in quality that's rare in someone working outside the industry full-time. He often writes as well as directs, an extension of the same storytelling instinct that has also produced several books in Bengali. His work behind the camera has been recognised with awards of its own — an unusual second chapter for a practising physician, but one rooted in a lifelong interest in narrative and craft.
03 — The Actor
In Front of the Camera
In front of the camera, Dr. Chatterjee is just as at home as he is behind it. His work as an actor draws on the same observational instincts as his medical practice, lending an unusual depth and authenticity to the characters he plays — people shaped by real circumstance rather than performance alone. It is a natural extension of the storytelling instinct that runs through everything else he does, from his writing to his direction work, each one quietly informing the other. His performances have been recognised with awards in their own right, a reflection of a creative life built alongside, rather than instead of, his medical career.
